About

Theodor Johansson is a mixed media artist, born in Skellefteå, Sweden.

Naïve expressions and frequent use of colors runs through his work distinguished by banners, large sized puppets, and patchworks. Using crude expressions in technique and visualization, he emphasizes his inspiration from the DIY culture and the low brow aesthetics of the new wave/punk/hardcore scene of the 1980’s.

Without any formal training in the field, Johansson works mainly with textile. The search for the self, the quest for sexual identity and the similarities in behaviour between the infant child and the grown man is subjects often present in his work. He often approaches these subjects from a kind of nihilistic point of view, where he (with the help of a vivid color palette and humoristic expressions) embodies the topics he explores into banners and soft sculptures.
